Oro Shel Adam would like to introduce one of our dear friends, Shulamit Martin. Shulamit is a regular presence at our local functions. Shulamit discusses her experiences in Israel, in Yishuv Adam and her interactions with Oro Shel Adam.

Shulamit Martin of Yishuv Adam, Geva Binyomin, Israel with Family

My name is Shulamit Martin and I live in Yishuv Adam with my husband and 3 children.

Aliyah Journey From Caracas, Venezuela to Samaria

I am originally from Caracas, Venezuela and made Aliyah to Israel at the age of 18 to study at Machon Gold Seminary and have been in Israel ever since. My parents and 2 sisters still live in Venezuela but they encouraged me to move to Israel and to make my life here. I also have a brother in Manchester. Life in Venezuela is very hard for the Jewish community and does not have much of a future. At one time Venezuela was a wonderful democratic country but now is severely economically depressed and even basic items such as butter and toilet paper are hard to find.

Arrival in Geva Binyamin

I met my husband here in Jerusalem and we have been married for 8 years and we have 3 wonderful children. We initially lived in Jerusalem for a few years but decided it would be the best for our family if we lived closer to my older sister who lives in Ma’aleh Michmash. I currently work giving massage therapy and reflexology to women patients and selling products from Forever Living

Forever Living Products in the Jerusalem Region

OSA: What are your favorite Forever Living products? What is so great about them?

Love the Forever Living Aloe Vera Spray. It is good for all types of burn and irritations. Another of my favorite products is the Forever Living Aloe Propolis Creme combines pure inner-leaf aloe vera gel and bee propolis. Vitamins A, E and C work to nourish and moisturize the skin while propolis helps rejuvenate skin for a smoother, suppler look and feel.

Reflexology and Massage

OSA: How did you learn Reflexology and Massage?

I learnt massage and reflexology for 4 years as part of a program at Michlaha Mayanot which is part of the Open University. Mayanot has a program on Naturopathy which is using natural methods of treatment to heal the body. Reflexology and Massage are part of the tools to practice Naturopathy. The reason I call my practice The Magic Touch is because touch can heal and it provides emotional and physical relief. For those that do not know, reflexology is a type of massage that puts pressure on the feet that correspond to the organs of the body. Reflexology and Massage have really helped me and I know if I haven’t had a massage for a few weeks my body lets me know. I learnt these disciplines because I really want to help people feel better and not be bogged down by pain. The greatest gift I receive is when a patient tells me that the treatment that I gave them made them feel better.

Anglo Community in Geva Binyamin

We are so happy to see and participate in the forming of an Anglo Community and being a part of Oro Shel Adam. We met Rabbi Shalom Miller and his wonderful family and they have been so kind and welcoming. I enjoy the shiurim and wonderful Shabbat meals that Rav Miller hosts. We would have been lost in Adam without the Miller family and the warmth of Oro Shel Adam.

Advantages to Yishuv Adam

OSA: What have you found to be advantages to living in Yishuv Adam?

We are close to Jerusalem and without being too far. There is a lot of open land and the kids love having the freedom to play and enjoy the outdoors. People are really friendly and there are all different levels of observance here and everyone gets along.
